I've never used tampons, but Tampax Pearl Compak is said to be the best in the business from quite a few sources (see title link). Supposedly great protection and is proven to have the smallest applicator (it's extendable). The compact version literally fits in the palm of your hand. Get a 40-pack for $5.99!

Tampax
Tampax Compak Pearl is a great brand of plastic tampons, from what I hear. It's super short, cutting Mother Nature down to size! It's cute and 40% smaller, still equipped with the LeakGuard skirt and core, and full-size protection. It allegedly stops leaks better than Playtex Sport regular, but I'm not necessarily sure (see title link).
