Help with coming out

I have quite a few friends who have struggled to come out about their sexuality. But I read about one girl who took little steps to do it instead of having to feel like it was an on/off switch. She said it out loud to herself, then told her dad, then told her parents. She still hasn't told her friends, because she wants to wait until she's ready to deal with the repercussions (see title link).
